American Expeditionary Forces general orders, 1918-1919.

World War I general orders issued from General Headquarters, American Expeditionary Forces, France, by command of General John J. Pershing, Chief of Staff James W. McAndrew, and Adjutant General Robert C. Davis. The orders concern regulations concerning the training of army officers; leave and furlough guidelines; requisition of supplies from French citizens; coal and wood allotments; the establishment of an effects depot to process the possessions of deceased officers; promotions, appointments, and changes in Army staff; regulations for dealing with members of the press; prisoners of war; and precautions against gas warfare. Later orders issued after the armistice describe provisions for the return of soldiers to the U.S., war service medals, and final payments to soldiers. Included among the orders is a message from General Pershing congratulating soldiers on the successful conduct of the war and exhorting them to comport themselves as honorably in peacetime as they did in battle.
